It first appears that she made a spectacular rescue of a downed helicopter crew, then held her own crew together to fight off the Iraqis after her copter crashed. Lt. Colonel Serling, who is struggling with his own demons from Desert Storm, is assigned to investigate her worthiness for the Medal of Honor. But some conflicting accounts, from her crew and soldiers in the area, cause him to question whether she deserves it.

Simply missed this film completely and just recently viewed it on TV and was amazed at this great story of our fighting men and women who fought in the Gulf War under President Geo. Bush Sr. Denzel Washington, (Lt.Col.Nathaniel Serling,"Man on Fire",'04 was deeply involved in bad judgment on his part in firing at the wrong enemy and was also involved in the background check of Meg Ryan,(Capt.Karen Emma Walden),"Against the Ropes",'04. Karen Walden was an Army Pilot in a UH-1 Helicopter and was up for a very high Army Award, however, there was a great deal of mystery behind what really happened to her on the battlefield. Lou Diamond Phillips,(Staff Sgt. John Manfriez),"The Trail to Hope Rose",'04 was a crew chief with Karen Walder along with Matt Damon,(Specialist Ilario),"Syriang" who knew what really happened on the battlefield with their commanding officer. Danzel Washington put his heart and soul into this film and it is a very much overlooked film. If you have not seen it, catch it the next time it is on TV.
"Courage Under Fire" is a well-acted thriller that never gets particularly thrilling. It plays out like a murder mystery, but since we don't really care about the characters, and something about the intrigue doesn't create tension… I suppose I enjoyed it but sort of it didn't impress meparticularly interesting or original.<br/><br/>Denzel Washington does wellusual. There isn't much to work with here, though. The film is plottedthough very high stakes are being played for, but it doesn't come across.<br/><br/>Who should see this film:<br/><br/>– Action/thriller movie buffs, but only on a rainy day with nothing better to do<br/><br/>– Anyone with an interest in military history, but only on a rainy day with nothing better to do<br/><br/>I'll give "Courage Under Fire" a so-so 6 out of 10.
The end of the film understandably lays on the emotion a little heavily, but until then Courage Under Fire has been a fascinating emotional and logistical puzzle–almost a courtroom movie, with the desertthe courtroom.
